Objectives

To study parasite/host ecology and understand the pathogenesis of malaria, trypanosomiasis and intestinal protozoan infections.

Contents

Parasite/host ecology; evolution of parasitism; co-evolution of parasites and hosts; parasite/host mechanisms mediating infectivity; parasite/insect interactions; pathogenesis of severe malaria; pathogenesis of trypanosomiasis; molecular pathogenesis of intestinal protozoan infections:- Entamoeba histolytica, Toxoplasma gondii and Eimeria tenella; fish parasites (ectoparasitic protozoa, Myxosporea, Monogenea, leeches and Crustacea) – taxonomy; ultrastructure; diagnosis and pathology.
