MOL403: Protein Structure, Function and Organization | 6 credits (40-10-10) |
Objectives
To describe the latest proteomic technologies and how these approaches can solve both fundamental and applied problems across a range of biological disciplines, including vaccine development. It also introduces cutting-edge technologies capable of solving detailed, fine structures of proteins, and describes how the knowledge of protein structure can help explain the function of specific systems such as cellular energy production, ion channels and receptor signalling.
Contents
Methods of protein extraction and analysis from cells and tissues; proteomic technologies; SDS-PAGE; Western blotting; ELISA; Protein Purification and analysis; Methods of protein structure determination: NMR and X-ray crystallography; Structure and function relationships.
