Objectives
To demonstrate how biochemical knowledge can be employed to create medical drugs and how the latter work.
Contents
Basic concepts of pharmacology; Pharmacological and Chemical Classification of drugs; Approaches to drug discovery emphasizing enzymes and receptors as drug targets; combinatorial chemistry and medicinal plants as sources for drugs; Metabolism of zenobiotics; Pharmaceutical Industry and Drug laws. Case studies and illustrative exercises will complete the course.
