To cover the mechanisms of biocatalysis focusing on the structure and function of enzymes with a treatment of elementary kinetics.

Enzymes as proteins and main catalysts within the cell; Classification and distinctive features; Co-enzymes and Co-factors; Mechanisms of enzymes catalysis; Elementary chemical kinetics; Michaelis-Menten theory and equations; Initial rates and extraction of Km and Vmax; Briggs-Haldane steady state postulate; Inhibition of enzymatic activity; Factors that regulate enzyme activity; Introduction to kinetics of bi-substrate reactions; Allosteric regulation and cooperativity; Selected examples of enzyme mechanisms (with 3-dimensional structures).
