Welcome to the Faculty of Science Website!

We are very excited about the Faculty and all that it has to offer to students, the university, and the World. I am excited and proud to be part of this new and improved website of the Faculty and look forward to connecting with all of you who are interested in our Faculty.

The Faculty of Science is one of the flagship Faculty of the University of Buea located in the historic town of Buea on the eastern flank of Mount Cameroon in Central Africa. Our mission is centred on the pursuit of scientific truth through research and teaching. We provide our students with the tools for rationale and objective analysis of facts and the methodology and the technical know-how by which such facts are established. We strive to inculcate in our students the virtues of hard work, honesty, fairness, dignity, civic responsibility, and consideration for neighbours. At the end of their training, our graduates are expected to have gained specialised knowledge and expertise in a well-defined domain of modern science in the context of human and environmental development.

We offer a rich portfolio of about 55 degree programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels, designed to comply with the European Bologna BMP-System by serving as a rich source of knowledge for our stakeholders, both local and global. These programmes, which are either classical or professional, are offered in the following Ten (10) Departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Microbiology and Parasitology, Physics, Plant Sciences and Zoology and Animal Physiology.

We have a highly qualified and diversified staff (145 permanent and about 50 part-time) to cater for over 4500 undergraduate and 700 postgraduate students. In addition to teaching, our staff undertake research projects in a wide variety of subjects, including infectious diseases, environmental hazards, natural resource management, biodiversity, drug prospecting, mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence, material science, petroleum and mineral exploration. These research projects, funded by international and national competitive grants, offer practical training opportunities for our students.

Our students also take out time to relax through participation in cultural activities, sporting events, clubs and associations. We, therefore, invite you to visit our website to learn more about what we have to offer and the many opportunities that await us in training our students, developing our faculty, and serving the community. Thank you for your interest and support. Happy New Year!
